70 per cent of drivers say they prefer independent garages over the main dealers, survey findings suggest.
The survey, which was conducted by Servicing Stop, asked motorists to voice the benefits of each garage type and praise came flooding in for the independents.
Many said that supporting local people and businesses was important to them while hundreds cited the low price as the main incentive.
Others said independent garages were more personal, trustworthy and friendly.
‘Trustworthy and friendly’
Many say they are apparently quicker to locate, maintain a better reputation and offer the ability to talk face-to-face with the mechanic servicing your vehicle.
Motorists supporting the main dealers believed that they were more likely to stock car parts and offer a courtesy car while some prefer to have a main dealer stamp in their service books.
Chief executive officer and founder of Servicing Stop, Oly Richmond, said: “I have always been an advocate for independent garages and always will be.
“Our network is made up of more than 1,500 independent garages across the UK and we’re always recruiting more.
“Independent garages offer motorists the chance to have skilled workmanship carried out on their vehicle in a trusted, safe and local environment.
“It also saves hundreds of pounds on a service.
“I’m thrilled to see that the majority of motorists are now accepting that independent garages are the way forward and I hope it is something that is celebrated in the industry.”
