Automechanika: Osram to present lighting tech innovations
Osram will be presenting the latest in lighting technology at Automechanika Birmingham which is set to take place on June 7-9.

At the first ever Automechanika at the NEC Birmingham, Osram will be presenting a number of innovations across all lighting technologies including a complete LED/OLED rear light cluster demonstrator, a modular LED Matrix demonstrator, LED DRL and FOG lights as well as halogen and HID bulbs such as Night Breaker Unlimited and Cool Blue Intense.

Future of automotive lighting

Halogen and HID replacement bulbs will soon be in decline due to the latest developments in lighting technologies such as LED, OLED, Laser and Matrix, Osram says.

For many years cars have been manufactured with LEDs used in Daytime Running Light (DRL) applications and now Osram is working closer with the leading VMs to develop ‘laser’ and ‘matrix’ lighting solutions.

In most recent years Osram has worked with BMW, and supplies the BMW i8 and the 7 Series with laser modules for headlight applications.

In a recent press release Osram said: “Laser lights are the next big thing in automotive lighting.

“Thanks to their high luminance, which is significantly greater than that of any other light source available today, and the smaller space requirements of laser light, headlights can be made even smaller than they are already.”

At the show Osram will also be demonstrating an LED/OLED rear light cluster, which showcases four lighting functions: brake light, turn indicator, reverse light and rear light.

The company will be promoting its installer programme which is free to join and provides garages with access to a set of marketing materials, including exclusive bulb fitting instructions for most makes and models of vehicle.

The programme is designed to keep garages, workshops and MOT test stations up-to-date with the latest bulb application data and product information, allowing them to replace lighting applications on many vehicles.
