Saturday, 24 March saw the first four-wheel action of the British Racing and Sports Car Clubs (BRSCC) 2018 racing calendar at Oulton Park.

Alongside BSA National Superkarts and Porsches, post ’89 and pre ’90 Formula Fords took to the track for the first Kerax HyperDrive ST-XR Challenge races.

During the briefing, competitors met members of the Kerax HyperDrive team who distributed merchandise and samples of their motorsport lubricants range for use in the race cars throughout the day.

The Kerax Hyperdrive ST-XR Challenge includes more classes this year to accommodate a broader range of cars which produced a grid of 20 cars for the first of two 15-minute races.

Justin Roberts was on pole in his XR2 with Steve Poole in his similar car alongside, on the second row was Michael Blackburn in his XR3i and Michael Heath in his XR2.

Roberts held onto the lead to the flag although he was under constant pressure from Poole and won by only 0.3 seconds.

Heath pressured Blackburn until he dropped out on lap seven leaving Blackburn a lonely third.

Race two saw Roberts and Poole again on the front row with Blackburn and Alistair May (XR2) on row two.

As the start lights went out Poole took the lead from Roberts and Blackburn.

These three started pulling away from the rest which was led by William Heslop in fourth.

Alistair May took fourth on lap two, the first three remaining in the same position nose to tail while Blackburn dropped away on lap three, still holding on to third place.

Poole again pressured Roberts all the way to the flag but could find no way past, the gap once again being 0.3 seconds, as Blackburn hung on to third by a second from May.

In other events there were two wins for Adam Southgate in The Toyo Tyres Porsche, Liam Morley and Sam Moss took a win apiece in the Karts.

Jack Wolfenden took two wins in the Pre ’90 Formula Ford and David McArthur and Rory Smith won a race each in the Post ’89 Formula Ford.
