Garages are being encouraged to provide cars owners with better information about some of the more cost-effective alternatives that can be used to control diesel emissions.

To coincide with the annual early year MOT peak period, Lucas Oil has scheduled a series of technical workouts with motor factors and their garage customers.

They focus on problem-solving additives and the benefits that can be achieved.

“Additive technology has increased significantly in recent years.

“It’s all about cleaning engines and fuel systems from the inside and improving overall performance, motorists rarely appreciate this,” says Lucas Oil managing director Les Downey.

He adds that falling diesel car sales and high profile media coverage about emissions toxicity means customers who own cars with diesel engines really feel like the bad guys, many also fear their vehicles are likely to fail the next annual test.

“They think high maintenance bills are the only alternative.”

Diesel deep clean and diesel EGR and turbo cleaner are just two low-cost problem-solving products that the US-based brand has developed to tackle the issues.

The technical workouts are being supported with Point of Sale (POS) leaflets and posters.

“Motorists need reassurance and as the front-line technical experts, garages can provide it.

“Hopefully, the workouts will help give garages more confidence to take the initiative.”
