After the final checkered flag of the 2017 Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) racing season, Monroe® Safety Ambassadors André Lotterer, Tiago Monteiro and Thierry Neuville each ended the year with strong finishes in the overall standings.

Belgian rally driver Neuville closed out the FIA World Rally Championship series by winning his final race at the 2017 Kennards Hire Rally Australia.

With four rally wins and eight podium finishes, he ended the season in second place overall, earning the Vice World Championship for the second consecutive year.

“This was an incredible victory for myself, and really for the entire Hyundai Motorsport team,” Neuville said following his victory in Australia.

“I’m always pushing to be the best competitor out there, and though we didn’t finish on top I’m incredibly proud of everything our team accomplished in 2017,  it’s truly been a memorable season.”

“Incredible brand ambassadors”

Lotterer, a Belgian-German racing veteran with three victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a drivers’ title in the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship, ended his final race of the FIA World Endurance Championship season with a third-place finish at the six Hours of Bahrain.

He completed his final WEC season fourth overall in the standings, with seven podium finishes and is set to make his debut in Formula E racing in 2018.

Monteiro, who led in the FIA World Touring Car Championship driver standings through the start of September, saw his season cut short when the brakes on his car failed during a test run at the Spanish Grand Prix circuit, leaving him hospitalized.

Monteiro sustained nerve compression and vision problems as a result of the accident, but despite being unable to complete the final few races of the season he still finished in seventh place overall.

“The Tenneco team wishes Tiago a speedy and full recovery, and we look forward to seeing him competing again in the near future,” said Bruce Ronning, vice president and general manager, Tenneco Europe Aftermarket.

“In spite of his injury, he along with André and Thierry are deserving of high praise for the success they each experienced during this exciting racing season.

“All three racers have been incredible ambassadors for the Monroe brand, and we’re excited to see them achieve more success in 2018.”
