ZF to bring auto trans, electric vehicle and steering calibration insight to AutoInform Live
Autoinform LIVE is a unique 'hands-on' training event that has built a loyal and growing following amongst leading UK independent garages.

Visitors to this year’s AutoInform Live can boost their knowledge of vehicles equipped with high voltage systems and automatic transmissions, as well as gaining a greater understanding of steering geometry calibration.

ZF Aftermarket will be providing a snapshot into its IMI-accreditted courses on these topics during three 90-minute interactive workshops at the event, which takes place at the GTG Training Academy, Wolverhampton, on the 25th and 26th November 2017.

AutoInform is the UK’s only independent garage trade event, powered by the Original Equipment Suppliers Aftermarket Association (OESAA), of which ZF is a member.

This is the fourth consecutive year that ZF Aftermarket has supported AutoInform.

With an increasing number of VMs placing electrification at the core of their businesses, independent garages will need to equip technicians to work safely on these vehicles.

Electrification

ZF Services’ [pro]Tech course on high voltage safety focuses on the importance of correct connection and electric vehicle security, together with bonding straps and why Ohms law is so important.

ZF Aftermarket will also being using AutoInform Live to help technicians understand how to accurately set up steering geometry, and complete tasks that sophisticated geometry machines cannot cater for.

Incorrectly adjusted steering geometry causes accelerated tyre wear and can affect vehicle stability.

Using the BMW 5 series as an example, ZF will demonstrate how to rectify such issues.

Transmission oil changes

Additionally, the business will share its philosophy with regards to transmission oil changes, the need for specific oils for individual transmissions, and service kit options for different gearbox types, as part of its Automatic Transmission Servicing, Maintenance and Diagnostics course.

The training demonstrates the removal of the transmission sump, electrical connectors and the mechatronic unit. These tasks can be performed with the transmission “in frame” as part of the oil service recommended on ZF transmissions.

All three courses are provided annually to members of ZF Services [pro]Tech Plus network.

Members of ZF Services’ [pro]Tech team will be on hand throughout the event to advise workshops on how they can continue to gain access to technical information across the complete ZF product portfolio.

Matt Shakespeare, technical manager at ZF said: “AutoInform always provides us with a great platform to give the aftermarket a taster of our IMI-accredited courses and this year we will showcasing three of our most popular training modules.

“This is the second year that we have hosted an insight into our automatic transmission training at AutoInform, and it is proving to be one of our most popular training programmes.

“We are also experiencing growing interest in hybrid and electric vehicle training and are working hard to offer more courses of this kind to the [pro]Tech Plus network throughout 2018.”
