Car belonging to the garage was caught by CCTV dumping 80 litres of oil

Dealership fined thousands for dumping engine oil
Two men were caught dumping engine oil by CCTV.

The driver and passenger of a car belonging to Cherry Orchard Chariots LTD were filmed on May 24 dumping two blue containers containing engine oil in Wexham, High Wycombe Magistrates Court has heard.

Arsonists later set fire to one of the 40-litre containers before specialist removal could take place.

A director at the garage has confirmed the company’s ownership of the vehicle but denied knowledge of the fly-tipping.

He said he sent a temporary employee to take waste –  which did not include oil – to an appropriate site using the vehicle and claimed that he did not recognise the second man seen in the CCTV footage.

The garage pleaded guilty to a fly-tipping offence and received a £2,000 fine, ordered to clean-up and pay prosecution costs of £1,421.80.

A victim surcharge was also levied bringing the total amount ordered to pay to £3,621.80

Chairman of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, Sir Beville Stanier said: “This case shows the environmental consequence of fly-tipping.

“Not only were the waste oil containers dumped in a beauty spot, but their presence triggered an act of arson that made the environmental damage considerably worse.

“It is surprising that the company authorised use of their vehicle by two such irresponsible men with such flimsy ties to the business.”

  3. If what the garage says is true and the pair were dumping their hobbling oil it’s a pretty harsh decision. People should be personally responsible for their actions

  7. “Buy a oil burner heater it pays for its self very quickly”. No it wont, new rule states a licence is needed approx £3500 and yearly inspection from the council for another fee from them. Not so free.

  9. You are both wrong, oil burners are now illegal but if you are lucky enough to have a dual burner you can run it on Diesel fuel or paraffin.

    • They are not illegal as we run one in our workshop, but can only burn kerosene and diesel fuels .
