Four fire engines were called to a garage in Preesall in Lancashire yesterday after technicians spotted flames coming from an air compressor.

Workshop staff had already evacuated the scene when firefighters arrived to set about tackling the fire.

Watch Manager Michael Dawson said: “The mechanics in the garage noticed that the air compressor at the rear of the garage had caught fire.

“So they did the right thing by calling us straight away and evacuating the garage.

“On arrival we found that the garage was smoke logged with the compressor on fire.

“We sent in four firefighters in breathing equipment with hose reels to extinguish the fire.

“The fire had the potential to grow quickly, but thanks to the quick actions of the staff, we managed to stop the fire spreading.”

Crews spent around one-and-a-half hours at the scene.

Nobody is reported to be injured.
