The forecourt remains empty as the landlord prepares for legal action.

A landlord is preparing for a legal battle over the closure of two second-hand car dealerships in Dundee.

Car salesman, Charles Sandeman closed two of his garages without warning or explanation, according to the Dundee Evening Times.

Landlord Jim Boyle claims the dealer left owing thousands of pounds for rent.

Speaking to the Dundee Evening Times, Mr Boyle said: “I’ve been speaking with my solicitors in Edinburgh who are dealing with the matter now.

“He’s going to leave me out of pocket to the tune of thousands and thousands of pounds.”

“Thousands and thousands of pounds”

However, Mr Sandeman claims Mr Boyle has no grounds on which to pursue him.

He said: “I have ceased dealing with Mr Boyle due to a get-out clause in the policy – that is what I have exercised.

“I got the leases made up and he didn’t get a lawyer to check them – that’s where he went wrong.

“I’ve lost my partner to cancer and I’m still recovering from that.

“I haven’t been in touch with Mr Boyle because I am just back from holiday.

“That’s all I have to say on the matter.”

“Legal obligations”

However, Mr Boyle added: “If Mr Sandeman thinks he can walk away without fulfilling his legal obligations he is wrong.

“We have been property landlords in Dundee for 40 years and we have never encountered a situation like this before.

“Legal action is being taken as the leases have four years to run.

“My solicitors have looked over the details and say Mr Sandeman is still liable.

“I am instructing them to begin legal proceedings.”
