The boss of second hand car dealership, We Buy Any Car, is facing fierce criticism for defending a reported £29 million bonus.
The bonus, which is nearly 60 times Avril Palmer-Baunack’s £525,000 annual salary, is the result of an incentive plan drawn up four years ago to grow the parent company.
The company, which is owned by British Car Auctions, defended the huge payout by saying it needed to pay a “competitive” rate.
In leaked emails seen by The Mail on Sunday, one former male colleague remarked that he might have been better off if he had a “pair of **** like Avril”.
Shareholders have also been encouraged to vote against the bonus scheme, with a report by advisory firm Glass Lewis calling the £29million pay-out ‘extremely disproportionate’.
