British treatment and chemical brand, Sol-X has praised a new investigation to help better detect DPF removals.
The Department for Transport (DfT) has commissioned the research and has indicated that its findings could be implemented as part of changes to the Roadworthiness Directive, which is scheduled to be introduced in 2017-18.
Richard Mason, managing director at Sol-X, said: “We have suspected a pending change to the MOT diesel emission test for some time.
“We see this investigation as the initial step to implement the change and believe the new check will involve monitoring exhaust particulate matter.
“This will cause MOT issues for vehicles where DPF’s have been removed.”
The brand says DPF replacement can cost more than a £1,000 and that some garages are offering removal services to their customers for a few hundred pounds.
Profitable DPF cleaning
“With the Sol-X professional DPF kit, an in situ clean can be carried out in under and hour, dissolving excess deposits and thus restoring the flow of the exhaust gas,” Richard added.
“The ECU recognises this and allows a forced or passive regeneration to happen, bringing the DPF and vehicle performance back to its pre blocked healthy state.”
The Sol-X professional DPF cleaning kit costs £300 and cleans without the need to remove the DPF from the vehicle.
The brand claims that it is both time saving and cost efficient, offering the modern workshop an excellent profit opportunity for a low initial investment.
