A local resident is believed to be behind fake parking tickets which have prompted a police investigation in Hornsea, East Yorkshire, reports the Telegraph.
The fake notices are believed to have been made by a local resident, unhappy with drivers parking on the pavement of Rawson Way.
Police were first alerted when six separate, homemade tickets had been found stuck to car windows on Saturday evening, threatening car owners with police action unless they “refrain from parking on the footpath” due to it being an offence to “wilfully obstruct homeowners from entering and exiting their driveways”.
“We are aware of these notices being put onto cars in the Rawsons Way area of Hornsea and can confirm that they have not been issued by the local policing team,” said sergeant Christopher Whitehead of Hornsea police.
“It looks like a local resident has taken the matter into their own hands and we would ask for that resident to contact us so that we can discuss their concerns.”
Paddy Collinson, 57, believes he knows who the vigilante may be: “Some of the residents were quite concerned, as they weren’t sure what was going on.”
“But it has been going on for sometime.
“It’s part of a bit of campaign by a certain resident as they were previously sending messages via Facebook telling people where they couldn’t park, it has got a lot worse lately.”
East Riding of Yorkshire Council urge anyone with information about the fake notices to contact the police.
