Footage has emerged online showing a vehicle being driven the wrong way down the M5 at night.
Passing motorists were forced to change lanes to avoid the oncoming car and several 999 calls were made to report the vehicle which was traveling between junction 21 at Weston-Super-Mare and junction 19 at Clevedon.
Tim Jones of Weston-Super-Mare captured the incident on camera and said: “I rang 999 at 11.23pm and that was straight after we saw the car.”
A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a driver travelling the wrong way down the M5 motorway between junction 21 and 19.
“The driver was stopped by 12.12am.”
Rachel Thresher from West Somerset, told Somerset Live: “The car was travelling down the fast lane in the wrong direction northbound, luckily despite the balloon Fiesta the motorway was pretty quiet so we were able to get into the first lane from the middle.”
