Brand new Range Rover has its roof ripped off when transporter hit M61 bridge
The brand new Ranger Rover had its roof ripped off when the transporter went under the bridge.

A vehicle transporter driver was left red faced this week when two brand new Ranger Rovers were left with severe damage following an impact with a bridge on the M61.

The driver had forgot to lower the top deck of the transporter after his last delivery.

The impact with the motorway bridge caused damage to both top tier cars, including a red Range Rover Velar worth at least £40,000.

The red Velar’s roof flew off on impact and hit a recovery vehicle which was behind the transporter on the motorway.

Distracted driver

Police were called and officers say the driver claimed he had been ‘distracted’ at his last delivery, which meant he forgot to lower the top deck.

He said that he had been parked outside a showroom and a woman with a pram asked him to move his truck, which he did without remembering to adjust the top ramps.

The driver was reported for driving without due care and attention.

A spokesman from Great Manchester Traffic Police said: “M61 motorway, car transporter driver fails to lower top deck and collides with bridge resulting in turning this Range Rover into a none factory build convertible.

“Driver reported for due care.”
