300,000 UK cars are at risk of stalling completely while being driven

Recall follows an investigation into reported safety issues with various BMW models.

BMW is extending a recall of UK cars to cover 312,000 vehicles over safety fears.

The vehicles included in the recall are the BMW 1 Series, the 3 Series, the Z4 and X1 petrol and diesel models made between March 2007 and August 2011.

Affected cars may have an electrical fault which could cause the engine to cut out completely while on the road.

The German car maker had recalled 36,000 cars last year but a BBC Watchdog investigation found there may be similar problems in cars not covered by the initial recall.

Commenting on Watchdog’s investigation, BMW said: “We now recognise that there may have been some cases of similar power supply issues in vehicles not covered by the original recall.

“In order to reassure customers with concerns about the safety of their vehicles, we are voluntarily extending the recall.

“We are therefore announcing today that we will take the proactive step of expanding the existing UK recall to cover all vehicles potentially affected by the power supply issue.”

I have a 5 series 2005 model, it went back to BMW for a recall for the battery cable, once i had my car back it was cutting out when driving, i can be doing 70mph and everything goes all electrics, gave it back to bmw and they said its a glow plug fault and relay, which would only pre-heat to start the vehicle, but that is what they put it down to and didnt want no further involvement, still to this day it still cuts out.
