An independent survey by Which? is warning consumers of five unforeseen failing of cars under three years old that they need to be aware – do you agree?

The survey found that three per cent of respondents with new cars under the MOT age have had issues with their mechanical braking system.

Faulty suspension springs, shock absorbers and struts were found to affect two per cent of these cars.

Five per cent had a faulty exhaust or emission control system.

Meanwhile, sat nav failure was found to be a problem for four per cent of cars.

Car battery problems are typically associated with older vehicles, but three per cent of the survey respondents have had a battery fault with a vehicle under three years old.

The survey findings follows the government’s decision to scrap plans to extend the MOT exemption period for new cars.

The majority of respondents to the government’s consultation on proposed 4-1-1 plans were against the proposals on safety grounds, arguing that the savings to motorists were outweighed by the risk to road users and the test often highlights upcoming issues affecting the vehicle.
