Homeowner, Shaun Brian is refusing to move his car in a stand off with his local council over the painting of double yellow lines outside his home.

Mr Brian claims the traffic enforcement outside his Poole house would be “excessive” because parking is already difficult for residents.

In protest to the work proposed, Mr Brian has parked his Volkswagen Golf in the way.

Council workers painted 30ft of yellow lines but had to leave the 10ft around Mr Brian’s car.

A letter was left on his windscreen last week warning him that if he did not move the vehicle the police may be called to ensure the works can be carried out.

However, the retired firefighter is standing his ground and workers have so far been unable to finish the job.

Steve Dean, from Poole council said: “Waste operatives have had great difficulty in regularly accessing Creech Road.

“As such we advertised the proposed double yellow lines for 28 days from November 30 and had marked as much of the lines as we could.

“A parked car prevented the liners from getting the last few metres of line in and we’ll be returning to complete the lines.

“We appreciate that parking space is in short supply in this area, but we have a responsibility to keep access clear for service vehicles.”

Shaun Brian said: “The parking in the street was already bad.

“I’m close to a main shopping area so workers park in my street during the day because the council car park is expensive.

“If I can’t park my car outside my house I have to park outside someone else’s so it will have a knock-on effect.

“But the council don’t seem to be sympathetic to that.

“I am finding it hard now, I’m trying not to use my car and to do my shopping locally so I don’t move it.

“I guess in the end I’m going to lose, the council has all the time and money and it’s just me on my own.

“It’s only ten foot which isn’t a lot, but it means a lot to me.”
