John, the ash values reported by VCDS are calculated values based on fuel consumption and distance driven, and do not reflect the actual mass of ash in the filter (which might be a lot more or a lot less than the calculated value). Because of that those readings will never decrease, even then not, if you remove the old DPF and install a completely new DPF filter in its place. You can only reset those values manually in the ECU – but again, the engine has no way of knowing the actual mass of ash, and only uses these values as reference data.
