“Drivers are left in the dark and are not warned when advanced safety tech operates incorrectly” Yes, but a warning light hardly cuts the mustard! My AEB malfunction experience may have been unusual, but as I subsequently discovered, it is definitely not unique. The malfunction was the activation of AEB at maximum force, with no warning whatever, where there was no visible hazard of any kind whatever. New 2023 car, 2 weeks old, approx. 30MPH, dry road, mid afternoon, bright day. Fortunately no following traffic. Car violently braked to standstill with ABS engaging. Quite a shock! Car back to dealer and tested via diagnostics and test drive but no faults recorded. Advised to re-engage AEB and continue driving to “see if it happened again”! It transpires that diagnostics do not record AEB activation if no collision ensues, so nothing to see and dealer has no guide as to possible cause so cannot remedy. Same line adopted by manufacturer. Vehicles suddenly braking to a standstill for no apparent reason create, at least, the risk of being rear-ended by hapless following driver. Seems it can happen to any vehicle of any make with AEB.
