It’s easy to see why garages may be a little apprehensive about their workshop being filmed, especially given how much equipment is there and the value of it, but if the vehicle is on road test then the camera should be connected. There’s no real reason for turning it off on a road test.
The suggestion from Graham is great though, placing something over the camera whilst its in the workshop.
CompareNewTyres.comParticipantThe DVSA are heading in the right direction as making sure garages and tester are testing right can only be a good thing for car owners. However, producing a traffic light system based on ‘National Averages’ is a flawed system. If all testers across the UK are either too stringent, or not stringent enough, does that make it ok?
A simpler and more effective system would be to dip sample a set number of garages every month and producing a rating system from that.
November 18, 2018 at 7:56 pm in reply to: Small waste oil burner confusion remains two years on from regulation changes #167236CompareNewTyres.comParticipantThis looks like a policy implemented so the government doesn’t have to ban small waste oil burners and suffer the backlash, instead simply pricing most garages out knowing full well that £3200 for an application fee and an annual fee of £1300 is an expense most small businesses can’t afford.
If we’re saying they’re bad for the environment (which they clearly are), why does paying an application and licensing fee reduce the damage caused?

CompareNewTyres.comParticipantIndependent garages always suffer when national chains make offerings like this, but I’m surprised its taken a national chain so long to offer free MOTs.
Although car owners aren’t required to, most garages know that once the car’s in for test, invariably if it fails the owner will leave the car with the garage to have work done, so it’s clearly a calculated decision from Halfords. Whilst I don’t disagree with this method, what I would object to is garages offering free or reduced price MOTs where they intend to fail a car that is safe in order to generate work.
