In response to accusations of unruly behaviour, managers at a family-run garage in Huddersfield assert that they have been an integral part of the neighbourhood for 20 years.
Last month, YorkshireLive published claims made by local people that the location was home to illegal hens bred for fighting and that trees near S Autos in Bulay Road had been carelessly chopped down. Additionally, a neighbour reported that cars were allegedly left on the road, obstructing the paths of rubbish trucks, people, and 999 vehicles.
YorkshireLive were informed by Clr. Naheed Mather, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate at Kirklees Council, that “we are aware of many concerns regarding S Autos on Bulay Road, Huddersfield. Numerous council services are the subject of continuing investigations, and a site visit has been planned to better understand some of the problems that have allegedly been brought on by the enterprise.”
The chickens have nothing to do with the garage, according to a spokesperson. “They are situated on land that S Autos does not own. We are only being accused because we are neighbours.
There is no need for us to park the vehicles on the adjacent road and run the danger of causing damage to the customers’ vehicles because all client vehicles are parked and stored on our site due to its size. We don’t frequently park on the road.
“Any after-hours customer pickups happen with a staff member present who checks the vehicle for damage; if the car was parked on the neighbouring road without our knowledge, this inspection cannot be done.”
“People are always complaining. We have been here for over 20 years. We are shocked by the unfounded allegations that have been made against us recently. S Autos is a family-run garage that has been a pillar of the community for over 20 years.”
The spokesperson continued, “We are a family-run business that is always giving back to the community, we would not do anything to harm community relations where our garage is based. We have held numerous schemes in the past which have given back to the local community. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, we have offered a 20% discount to all key workers. This scheme is still open to all NHS worker’s who can call in for their 20% discount.”.
