Kimberley Locker with HRH Prince Michael of Kent and the Fellowship’s Peter Lewis-Jones.

At an Awards Ceremony held at Fanshaws, headquarters of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the Fellowship of the Motor Industry Training Bursary was presented by HRH Prince Michael of Kent, accompanied by Peter Lewis-Jones, former Chairman of the Fellowship.

Designed to assist motor industry trainees, students and apprentices through their studies, the Fellowship’s bursary is part of a sponsorship package with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

Funds provided by the Fellowship contribute to the cost of training, books and other learning materials and expenses to help trainees manage the costs of their study.

The bursary is awarded to the winner of the IMI’s Outstanding Technical Student, Light Vehicle Category training scheme.

The IMI monitors student performance and ensures the appropriate use of the funds to gain maximum benefit for the winning student, who this year was Kimberley Locker.

Kimberley was nominated for her positive attitude, motivation and teamwork and has already been identified as a future centre manager and is currently undertaking development on the Kwik-Fit Management Foundation Programme.

She was presented with the IMI Outstanding Achievers Award, together with the Fellowship’s Bursary, by HRH Prince Michael of Kent.

Bright future

Her citation included the following assessment: “Kimberley is a shining example of someone any business would like to employ.

“Her enthusiasm is infectious and has recently seen her give a group of 60 new apprentices a motivational speech to provide an insight into the Apprentice Programme.

“Kimberley is an individual who continues to set an excellent example to fellow work colleagues.”

The Fellowship’s Bursary award is a three-year programme in association with the IMI

The 2016 Fellowship Bursary recipient Andrew Gault, has recently returned from The World Skills Olympics in Abu Dhabi where he represented Team UK.

He was competing against 1,200 other young people from over 50 nations and won a Bronze Medal, one of only ten medals won by Team UK.
