Scammers are attempting dupe garage owners with fake Autodata emails, the Independent Garage Association (IGA) has warned.

Autodata, supplier of technical information to the automotive aftermarket, has released copies of three phishing emails currently in circulation.

The firm has confirmed they have not been sent by Autodata’s accounts or finance team and are not genuine.

Garages are advised to check any suspicious email with their account manager before taking any action.

They also note that Rod Williams left the business in March 2020, so it is not possible for him to communicate on behalf of Autodata.

Autodata will never email you to ask if you have an outstanding balance or ask for passwords or usernames.

An IGA spokesperson said: “To help with security, never share your Autodata login details with others or confirm any payment details over email.

“There may of course be genuine communication from Autodata when your subscription is due for renewal, or if your payment card has expired.

“However, if you are ever in doubt, you can contact Autodata directly.

If you believe you have received one if these emails IGA members can contact the IGA direct member helpline on 0845 305 4230 or by emailing [email protected].

#say no to 0845 again no mention of call charges no mention of access charges per minute.

As for Autodata, don’t make sense trying to pull a fast one

    1) you cant log in and think there is a button that tells you about
    Account

    2) when you ring technical support, ignore the crap about being busy or covid and to email Which then says “8 hours” You get straight through to tech support.

Steve who reminds us of “Swiss Tony” from bbc fast show,
Gordan who reminds us of “René” the cafe owner from Allo’ Allo
Then Amit who reminds of someone from “The Simpsons” but not sure
    Which one.

    3) no mention of this when called autodata last week

    4) bit bad paying all this money and they don’t tell you
And value for money the INCORRECT information on more
    Than one occasion!
