The Independent Garage Association (IGA) is to release a ‘garage guide’ to online presence, it has announced.

The new guide aims to help garage owners navigate the world of online marketing, outlining a variety of online platforms and marketing suggestions that can be implemented for little to no cost.

Topics covered include developing a logo and branding, creating a website, setting up and running social media business pages, adding a garage to Google Business and Google Maps, email marketing and marketing strategy.

In a newletter to its members, the IGA said: “A vast majority of consumers use the internet as their only source of information when looking for a local, reputable independent garage.

“If your garage can’t be found online, you could be missing out on a great deal of business to competitors that have more visibility on the internet and social media.

“It can be tempting to rely on third-party work provision websites to bring in new business, but this leaves you paying extortionate fees.

“More importantly, it also associates you with the work provider, dulling your brand and removing any sense of individuality that customers love.

“By setting up your own online presence you will have full control of your company’s image online, make it far easier for motorists in your local area to discover and contact you, and save money in the long-term.”

IGA members will receive the guide via post in the coming weeks as a benefit of membership.
