Tyre labeling gone flat

EU tyre labels have yet to make much impact on consumer buying decisions according to a new survey.

A study compiled by the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) into customer attention to tyre label information found 93% of tyre retailers said customers ‘never’ or ‘only occasionally’ require information on the EU label.

Amazingly only 30% knew that tyres can even affect fuel consumption.

Richard Edy, Director of the NTDA said: “It is still early days for the tyre labelling, and we can expect consumer knowledge to improve over time, the industry should work together to improve the uptake of high-performance tyres by providing as much information to the consumer as possible – whether within the dealership or externally”.
