Drivers, beware, a little-known rule could land you a hefty fine of up to £1,500. It is illegal to carry out car repairs on the roadside unless the vehicle has broken down. This ban covers repairs, maintenance, and servicing of any motor vehicle.
Grimsby resident Gary Mills learned this the hard way. After being found guilty of the offence for the second time, he faced fines and costs totalling £1,590. Mills had been repairing cars on the roadside, despite complaints from neighbors about late-night repairs on their street.
Councillor Ron Shepherd emphasised that rules exist for a reason—to uphold residents’ quality of life and ensure safety. The council maintains a zero-tolerance policy, reminding everyone that no one is above the law.
