A Chesterfield mechanic has been sentenced for stealing a customer’s campervan, registering it in his own name, and selling it on.
52-year-old Shane Richardson claimed the victim was using another vehicle registered in his name to justify the numerous congestion charges he was receiving.
In November 2021, the victim hired Richardson to modify his campervan. The initial agreed price of £2,000 increased to £2,500. Richardson then registered the campervan in his name and sold it for £4,500. The campervan was eventually recovered and returned to the rightful owner.
Richardson received an eight-month jail sentence suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £2,500 compensation to the victim.
