Autotech Recruit is to waive its permanent recruitment fees from 1 July in a bid to help the industry return to full strength.
The announcement follows a significant rise in enquiries from vehicle technicians for permanent employment opportunities.
With an anticipated spike in cars due for MOT and servicing following the end of the six-month MOT exemption from 1 August, Autotech Recruit says it is vital that workshops are fully resourced to manage demand.
The recruitment specialist warns that if garage owners don’t initiate recruitment, there is a risk that these skilled vehicle technicians will be lured away to other industries – a trend which was witnessed during the 2008 financial crisis.

Simon King, managing director of Autotech Recruit, said: “It is vital that, as an industry, we protect and retain this skill-set.”
“The aftermarket needs to ensure they are fully resourced to manage the spike in business expected over the next few months.
“However, recruitment drives can take time.
“As a result, we are waiving our permanent recruitment fee for the next three months for all aftermarket businesses who employ one of our temporary vehicle testers or MOT testers to cover any labour shortfalls quickly in the interim.”
