IMI jobs portal offers automotive work experience for pupils

The IMI Jobs Portal has launched automotive work experience placements for pupils under 16, as part of the Automotive Work Experience (AWE) Programme. This initiative aims to address the automotive industry’s skills gap, which currently faces a shortfall of approximately 18,000 skilled professionals.

The AWE Programme, a partnership between School of Thought Automotive, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), and Autotech Academy, seeks to challenge misconceptions about automotive careers and showcase diverse roles within the sector.

The portal facilitates connections between pupils, educators, and businesses, providing practical industry experience. These placements align with Gatsby Benchmark 6, which emphasises the importance of workplace experiences for pupils aged 16 and 18.

Automotive businesses can offer placements ranging from a single day to a week, or a few hours per week. Nearly 100 placements have been pledged, with the portal remaining open for further business participation.

Participating businesses receive support, including work experience packs with guidance on structuring placements, safety protocols, and pupil support.

The portal is now live for pupils and schools to secure placements, and for businesses to pledge support.

Pupils and schools interested in securing a placement can visit the portal at Work Experience Placements | IMI Jobs Automotive Recruitment.

Businesses interested in pledging work experience placements can do so at AWE Business Registration.
