MOT demand brings opportunity for well-equipped workshops, say experts

Independent garages equipped and ready for the dramatic increase in MOT demand from August will benefit from “tremendous revenue opportunities”, according to Snap-on.

The number of tests is expected to overtake pre-exemption demand in August and is forecast to continue rising before reaching a peak around October/November when the volume of tests is expected to be 200 per cent above normal levels.

The data suggests testing won’t return to normal levels until around February 2021 before a significant drop in demand come March, marking one year since the six-month MOT exemption was announced.

Mark Ost, general manager for Snap-on diagnostic and equipment divisions, said: ” With over 500,000 consumers choosing to defer their MOT tests, we know this has been a very challenging time for you and the whole garage industry.

“The positive news is that industry experts expect that the volume of MOT tests to be carried out from August to early 2021 will be over 2.5 times the usual activity, which will hopefully result in tremendous revenue opportunities for you.

“Obviously these tests will also generate additional workshop activity such as tyre repairs and replacements, mechanical repairs and increase the volume of work in your garage.”

Snap-on is currently promoting its SUN DGA5000 emissions analyser and can provide it to garages fully installed, calibrated, ready and working within days of receiving an order.

Mark added: “We know that the demand for the SUN DGA5000 will be high and so in order to meet our customers’ needs, we have been working hard to build up a stock of available product.

“Place your order now to ensure you get one of these units before supplies are gone.”
