Technological advances to help reduce the impact of emissions including EGR systems, catalytic converters and DPFs cannot work as designed without regular preventative maintenance, BG Products has said.

According to the servicing specialist, car manufacturers, engine producers and fuel companies now acknowledge the problems caused by carbon deposits and the effect they have on pollution.

A BG Products spokesperson said: “As standard car servicing doesn’t significantly affect the power and MPG-sapping deposits that accumulate in the engine, more intensive cleaning is needed to keep a vehicle’s engine running efficiently and producing less particulate matter.”

BG Products, a long-established US chemical company, invests significant sums into research and development in order to develop effective products that cleanse and remove carbon deposits.

Published testing conducted by BG Products proves the importance of preventative maintenance.

A fleet trial with US oil giant Halliburton cut the NOx by 50 per cent from the treated vehicles and the particulates by 81 per cent.

Bus and train testing has also been seen to deliver substantial cuts to pollutants.
