With winter fast approaching and the DVLA reporting that 60 per cent of all MOTs for the year will take place in the second half of the year, First Line Ltd., via its Borg & Beck brand, is advising on the importance of ensuring all filters are replaced, where necessary, during a winter service.
Borg & Beck recognises the colder weather can have a negative impact on the performance of vehicles, as several key components will be more exposed to the elements and prone to wear and potential failure than during milder periods.
With this in mind, Borg & Beck is recommending that during a winter service, all scheduled filters be replaced, especially the cabin filter, as it can often be bypassed, despite it working especially hard throughout each season.
Jon Roughley, global marketing director for First Line Ltd., said: “In spring, the pollen count is usually already high, but with freshly cut grass throwing up fine particles, it can increase further.
“In summer there are plenty of soot and fine particles polluting the air, and in autumn there is higher humidity than in the summer, which means more dust and other particles clogging the filter.
“By the time winter arrives, it is highly likely that the cabin filter will need replacing, if it has not already been changed earlier in the year.
“The added pressure of winter could also lead to decreased heater performance, unpleasant odours and safety issues, as the windows may not be able to clear properly, affecting the vision of the driver.
“To prevent a number of potential health and safety issues and to maximise engine life, technicians should be recommending that cabin filters should be automatically replaced at every service interval, or every 12 months, whichever comes first, particularly before the arrival of winter.”
Filters have several major elements to ensure that they function correctly and in the case of oil, air and fuel filters, will preserve the life of the engine.
This is why, in keeping with Borg & Beck policy, the entire range is manufactured to exacting standards and undergoes stringent quality control and testing to ensure the consistency of performance that is expected with a premium product.
The complete Borg & Beck Filter range offers more than 1,400 references providing comprehensive coverage for the entire vehicle parc for cars and light commercial vehicles.
All are constructed using high quality, resilient materials and premium quality filter paper is specifically selected against each application for ultimate filtration.
To help workshops educate their customers with this valuable message, First Line Ltd., under its globally recognised Borg & Beck brand, has produced a useful poster that can be displayed in the workshop’s reception area to help inform motorists of the importance of cabin filter replacement and the risks, should they ignore the advice to regularly replace the filter.
