Castrol has launched a pioneering low-viscosity engine oil, Castrol EDGE 0W-20 LL IV, receiving simultaneous approval from leading German car manufacturers BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen.
This next-generation lubricant caters to modern petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles, offering increased efficiency, reduced emissions, and protection against harmful pre-ignition in smaller turbocharged engines.
Castrol EDGE 0W-20 LL IV achieves the demanding approvals of BMW Longlife-17 FE+, Mercedes-Benz MB-Approval 229.72, and Volkswagen VW 508 00/509 00, making it suitable for a wide range of vehicles. Furthermore, it meets Porsche C20 standards and exceeds Ford WSS-M2C956-A1 specifications.
The oil’s low viscosity formulation minimizes energy consumption within the engine due to its easy flow. Castrol EDGE 0W-20 LL IV is rigorously tested and formulated to address Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) – a concern in modern turbocharged engines. LSPI can cause premature fuel ignition leading to noise and even engine damage. This new oil significantly reduces the risk of such occurrences.
“Castrol EDGE is our most advanced engine oil range, meeting the most demanding specifications,” said Ralf Wobben, Brand and Product Specialist at Castrol. “This world-first low-viscosity ‘combi’ lubricant exemplifies our collaboration with car manufacturers to unlock performance and efficiency gains. It demonstrates how we translate cutting-edge technology into a versatile product for numerous applications.”
