Delphi Technologies reveals innovative new diagnostic enhancements to optimise workshop profitability

Delphi Technologies, a brand of BorgWarner Inc., has revealed a series of innovative new diagnostic enhancements to the DS software.

Over the last three years there has been significant growth in the functionality offered from the diagnostics tools in order to match pace with market changes and modern vehicle requirements.

New hardware launched in 2021, the new BlueTech VCI and ADAS equipment, are easy to use tools which flexibly offer expert diagnostic protocols and more simple reset tasks as required.

The BlueTech VCI was one of Delphi Technologies’ most progressive launches, with the most enhancements to an OBD diagnostic tool in Delphi Technologies’ history.

The new BlueTech Vehicle Control Interface (VCI) boasted hardware improvements to processing power, CAN FD channels, Passthru support and integrated DoIP functionality.

An ADAS diagnostic solution will become paramount for workshops to ensure a truly complete repair or replacement of systems with ADAS-connected functionality, which is an ever-increasing number of vehicle systems.

The Delphi Technologies ADAS solution covers 198 models with radar, 333 models with camera, and connects via the same diagnostic software as the BlueTech VCI.

By sharing the software platform this ensures familiarity for the technician and increases usability of licences.

The vehicle coverage offered by the software has continued to grow in 2022, in both the makes and models included and the tasks available for that system selection.

With Delphi Technologies diagnostics by their side the technician can perform wide ranging service tasks on the most popular models of vehicles, from standard servicing to Electronic Control Unit (ECU) updates, parts replacements, and recalibrating cameras.

The application coverage has gained huge traction in new-vehicles-to-market which includes the growing number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the road.

The first version of 2022 software covers 191 EV models for car and LCV and 24 models for HD, and multiple unique system selections.

As more and more EVs enter their service life and enter the vehicle bay, workshops can rest assured that their BlueTech VCI, ADAS, and DS software have adapted and grown to accommodate the latest models.

All of this is bolstered by the DTC-Assist functionality, a Guided Diagnostics feature included in the BlueTech license.

The DTC-Assist helps the user of a Delphi Technologies tool quickly identify the root cause and possible fixes of the vehicle issues. It reduces the root cause investigation time and increases the probability of right parts replacement, ultimately improving the workshop’s profitability.

Due to the impressive volume of data that a vehicle now generates, many VMs have implemented mechanisms to keep safety critical systems like ECUs secure.

Security Gateway (SGW) access must be a top priority for workshops who could find themselves blocked from certain diagnostic functions.

The DS software and BlueTech VCI provide direct access to Security Gateway built into the digital platform for popular Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Mercedes, Smart and Volkswagen Audi Group.

In addition, the BlueTech VCI can unlock the Security Gateway for Renault group vehicles thanks to its Passthru J2534 capability.

James Tibbert, EMEA marketing director, said: “Secured access to ‘write’ functions in the vehicle ECU will shortly become the norm and BorgWarner makes its tools ready to always offer the full professional diagnostic capability to its customers.

“The integrated security gateway feature, available with the BlueTech license, makes diagnostics on the latest vehicle models easy and straight forward, saving time for the technician and increasing productivity of the workshop.”

As the aftermarket grapples to engage quickly with sustainability and mobility demands, diagnostics can empower workshops with a rapid response to these key trends.

The right diagnostics solution has the potential to improve sustainable aftermarket practices including reducing parts to landfill and correct management of the emissions of the VIO.

The insights assembled from diagnostic vehicle data are helping improve vehicle quality and performance for an optimised, extended service life.

Delphi Technologies diagnostic range can help vehicles of today and tomorrow go cleaner, better, further right through their life.
