LKQ achieves carbon emission reductions with HGV biofuel transition

LKQ UK & Ireland has transitioned 67 of its HGV logistics fleet vehicles to run on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), also known as biofuel, resulting in an estimated yearly reduction of over 4 million kg of carbon emissions (CO2e). This initiative supports LKQ Corporation’s goal of achieving net zero scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050.

The transitioned HGVs are part of LKQ Euro Car Parts’ logistics fleet, which performs 55,000 daily deliveries, transporting 136,000 stock items from its Tamworth logistics hubs to 280 branches.

HVO, a fossil-free diesel alternative made from 100% renewable resources, reduces fossil-based carbon emissions by at least 80% compared to traditional diesel.

This initiative is part of a broader sustainability investment in LKQ UK & Ireland’s 3,000-strong delivery fleet. In 2024, the company added 30 compressed natural gas Scania HGVs, with an additional 15 planned. The company has also begun transitioning light commercial vehicles to electric.

LKQ has also partnered with Delivery Mates to pilot the use of e-scooters and pedal bikes from seven London branches.
