Rachel Taylor MP recently visited the facilities of LKQ UK & Ireland, a major distributor of automotive parts, to discuss the future of logistics operations and equality within the automotive aftermarket.

The visit showcased LKQ’s extensive logistics network, comprising three central distribution centres, 13 regional fulfilment centres, and 280 branches. This infrastructure enables the company to deliver 85% of customer orders within one hour while maintaining substantial stock levels. Discussions highlighted LKQ’s sustainability efforts, notably the successful transition of its HGV fleet to low-carbon hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), projected to reduce annual carbon emissions by over 4 million kg of CO2e.

Tony Shearer, Chief Operating Officer at LKQ UK & Ireland, emphasised the challenges in balancing efficiency, sustainability, and technological advancement in the aftermarket. He noted the productive discussions with Ms Taylor on how logistics innovations can support industry growth and environmental goals.

The meeting also addressed equality and representation, with LKQ highlighting its participation in the Automotive 30% Club and its internal PAVE network promoting diversity through peer support, mentorship, and training.

Rachel Taylor MP commended LKQ’s commitment to operational excellence and workplace diversity, recognising the automotive aftermarket’s economic importance. She also received a briefing on LKQ’s humanitarian aid for Ukraine, including her upcoming drive of an ambulance procured through the company’s fundraising. Through its LKQ Digraph division, the company is a key distributor in the commercial vehicle aftermarket.
