GROUPAUTO member, D & A Motor Factors came to the rescue for the owner of AutoCare Garage, Joe’s Repair Shop when a bent exhaust brought the 500-mile road trip to halt.
Garage owner, Joe Pugh and his friend Matt Hopkins set off to complete a 500-mile loop around the north of Scotland, which starts and ends in Inverness.
The pair decided to complete the North Coast 500 at a leisurely pace over seven days in their classic cars; a 1972 Saab 96 and a 1970’s Triumph Vitesse.
Joe said: “After several evenings of preparing our cars we set of to carry out the North Coast 500.
“Our plan was that, myself and my mate Matt Hopkins would set off early on the fourth and stay overnight near the border and pick our other halves up at Inverness airport the next day some 600 miles away.”
“The cars performed faultlessly, until four days in”
“The cars performed faultlessly, until four days in, when I managed to reverse my Saab into a bank and bent my exhaust in the middle of nowhere.
“After much leavening and stretching we managed to get the exhaust back on and cable tied it securely.
“Still 200 miles from Inverness and another 600 from home I had doubts that the car was going to make the trip back.
“Then I remembered a guy I’d sat with at the AutoCare Garage Conference last year – goes by the name of Scott Barn from D & A Motor Factors in Dundee.
“I decided to give him a ring.
“Not only did I get a cheery voice on the other end of the phone, he got me an exhaust for my car, which are pretty rare at the best of times.
“I’m pretty sure he had it in stock.
“Not only that he shipped it to an independent garage on my route, who fitted it for me.”
“So many thanks to Scott at D & A Motor Factors and AutoCare for bringing us all together.”
