GYS launches battery technical guide

Features include tips for five battery processes and GYS '1, 2, 3' test

GYS launches battery technical guide
GYS has produced a free technical guide to simplify product selection.

Keeping it simple, there are five processes that can be done to a vehicle battery in the workshop, according to GYS: charge it, start it, support it, test it and change it.

Against each of these processes GYS sets out the technical considerations needed and the products that will carry out that process.

Another key feature of the technical guide is the ‘1, 2, 3 test’, which is GYS’ initiative to ensure battery maintenance is completed safely and effectively.

Whether it’s for charging, starting or battery support, GYS believe that the ideal tools must meet three simple criteria, encompassed within the GYS 1-2-3 test:

  • Safety – product must be safe to use with the battery in situ, chargers must include protection to ensure that no damage can be done to the vehicle’s electronic system; this can include overvoltage protection, polarity reversal and prevention of sparks.
  • All battery types – equipment must have the ability to charge or work with the latest battery types, including new battery materials – AGM, EFB, stop start, silver/calcium – a traditional constant current charger cannot be recommended for the latest battery types.
  • Universal mode – the ability to safely charge when the battery type is not known; GYS products offer a solution to connect and go, giving the assurance that the charge will be conducted safely without requiring the technician to identify the battery type.

The GYS battery technical guide is available now, free in quantity by contacting the GYS UK sales office on 01926 338609 or by clicking ‘more details’ below to view online.
