Hickleys celebrates 100 Years in the automotive industry

Hickleys, a well-known national supplier of garage equipment and diagnostic tools to the automotive industry, is celebrating its 100th year in business in 2025. The company also provides a range of related engineering services.

The business began as a small battery service shop in Taunton, Somerset, and has evolved significantly over the past century. Initially focused on batteries and automotive electrical services, Hickleys expanded into a full-fledged automotive service provider with branches in Taunton and Bridgwater.

In the 1950s, Hickleys became a major supplier of automotive parts in the region, and the 1960s saw the company enter the body repair market through multiple acquisitions. The early 2000s marked a strategic shift, with Hickleys exiting the refinish market and diversifying into the Healthcare and Mobility sector.

Today, Hickleys operates nationally and internationally, supplying garage equipment and diagnostic tools directly to end users and through a network of distributors. The company also provides products, training, and technical support to UK auto locksmiths.

Throughout its history, Hickleys has remained family-owned and continues to uphold its core values. The current chairman of directors, Duncan Miekle, is the grandson of one of the original founders. Hickleys also maintains a local presence in automotive workshops, offering MOTs, services, and mechanical repairs at its Taunton and Bridgwater branches.

To commemorate its centenary, Hickleys will host a series of charity events throughout 2025. The first event involves Keith Smalldon, operations manager, running a 100-mile ultra-marathon across the Somerset countryside in under 32 hours in May. This effort will raise funds for The Beacons Centre, a local cancer treatment facility. Donations to support this achievement can be made via the Just Giving page: justgiving.com/page/keith-ultra100.
