First F2 pole position of season for Lucas Oil-sponsored car

After a victory at the previous F2 meeting at the Paul Ricard (France), Red Bull Junior driver Ayumu Iwasa turned in a blistering lap in the final moments of qualifying at the Hungaroring (Hungary) last weekend, to secure his first pole position for the DAMS team.

Having earned an extra two points for this success, he went on to drive the #17 Lucas Oil-sponsored car to 8th place in Saturday’s Sprint Race. This added another point to this season’s tally (the qualifying-grid positions are reversed for this event).

Starting from pole position in Sunday’s Feature Race, he showed strong pace to finish third (+15 pts).

It was a race in which every driver suffered from severe tyre degradation. Teammate Roy Nissany, in the #16 car (also sponsored by Lucas Oil), finished out of the points in both races.

The mechanics use Lucas Oil Brake Cleaner, as well as the car care products from the Slick Mist range to ensure the cars stand out on the starting grid.

Ayumu’s recent charge means he has moved up into seventh place in the Driver’s Championship.

The DAMS team lies 6th overall.

“Our partnership with DAMS is gathering pace and momentum. The points are beginning to mount up. There’s now a short break before the next race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium, 26-28 August) and the team’s confidence is justifiably high,” says Dan Morgan, sales and operations director for Lucas Oil Products (UK).
