Why VAG 1.6/2.0 TDi can have two OE fuel filter housings and what you need to do

MANN FILTER explains the differences between fuel filter PU 8014 and PU 8021

Why VAG 1.6/2.0 TDi can have two OE fuel filter housings and what you need to do
MANN-FILTER PU 8014 should be installed in housings fitted with a water drain device while PU 8021 should be installed in housings without a water drain device.

MANN FILTER has published a document explaining the differences between fuel filter PU 8014 and PU 8021.

On the document, MANN FILTER said: “On some VAG 1.6/2.0 TDi applications, two original equipment fuel filter housings are installed, sourced from different suppliers.

“The integral filter elements from each supplier differ visibly too and this may cause installer concern when selecting a replacement filter.”

Water drain device

When selecting the correct replacement filter, the first step is to identify if the original filter housing has a water drain device.

The water drain pipe, if fitted, can be found at the top of the filter housing.

MANN-FILTER added: “PU 8021 and the alternative supplier’s filter element differ dimensionally, due to patented design factors.

“Positive installation and performance of PU 8021 is assured when installed into either OE housing.”
