TMD Friction’s Mintex brand ambassador Lewis Brown remains optimistic about his championship chances despite enduring a difficult opening to his Quaife MINI Challenge season at Donington Park, where luck was not on the driver’s side.
The Mintex-backed driver showed great raw pace in Saturday’s qualifying and first of the three races over the weekend, where he took pole position and set a new lap record in a race that he was comfortably leading, until a tyre failure in the final laps saw him tumble to a 23rd place finish overall.
In the first of Sunday’s pair of races, Brown carved his way through to finish an admirable 13th place from the back of the field after a pre-race clutch issue, but in the final race of the weekend the Mintex-backed driver suffered an engine problem, leaving him out of the running, but Brown remains upbeat about his chances going into the next round.
He said: “Despite the results not coming to fruition at Donington, there’s lots of positives to take away.
“The sheer pace we demonstrated is extremely encouraging, and although we were hoping for some trophies, pole position and fastest lap in race one is definitely something to be proud of.
“My confidence is high going into Brands Hatch, and I’m hopeful I can turn our pace into some strong results.”
Lewis Brown is in his fifth season with Mintex stopping power on board his car, having raced in the MINI Challenge since 2018, and stepping up to the series after becoming Ginetta GT5 champion in 2017.
Mintex brake pads and discs are engineered to provide friction stability, comfort and consistently high performance over a wide temperature range and stopping distances.
