Motul congratulates 2021 Top Garage and Top Technician Award winners

As part of its ongoing focus on the UK garage market, Motul signed up as one of the five presenting partners in the scheme, whose aim is to promote and showcase best practice across the sector

This year more than three hundred technicians and five hundred garages entered these prestigious awards and the finals recently took place, with the awards ceremony the same evening.

During the day, the five top technician contenders and forty garage finalists – all of whom who had progressed successfully from September’s Semi-Finals – assembled at In-Town Automotive in Northampton to undergo the final assessments to determine who would be crowned Top Technician and who would be the four garages who won the honours in each of the four size-defined categories.

Motul provided tasks, questions and equipment for the Top Technician semi-finals and finals with Motul UK’s Andy Wait also being invited to be part of the Judging Team for the Garage finals.

In the semi-finals of Top Technician, part of the Motul task had involved using Motul’s new sustainable BioClean system to clean off some key components before identifying what had gone wrong with the engine they came from.

In the final Motul’s task involved stripping a broken engine to determine the cause of its problems.

All of this took place under with watching eyes of one of the previous Top Technician winners, who was on hand not only to make the assessment but also to help ensure the technicians made the most of the 50 minutes that was available to them for the task.

Motul added to the razzamatazz of the day with the arrival of a Motul lubricated, Nismo V8-powered BR LMP2 Le Mans race car.

The car – which runs in the Endurance Masters series and is prepared by nearby BBM racing – is one of a number of Motul-supplied race cars run by the team, and it proved a major draw for competitor and judge alike, with everyone wanting to be photographed by – or even sitting in – the fabulous red, white and blue Motul-branded machine.

Top Technician winner, Kevin Toms of FRL Autoservices is pictured to the left of the car (top), along with his fellow finalists. Kevin is also pictured above, at the Motul task station during the final assessment.

Motul was also the sponsor of the 1-3 employee Top Garage Award.

This was won by CM Automotive of Bristol, who, as part of their prize package, have a fantastic VIP experience as special guests of the Motul-partnered Speedworks Toyota Gazoo UK race team at the Final of the British Touring Car Championship to look forward to – as indeed, does Top Technician, Kevin Toms.

Motul UK and Ireland business development manager, Andy Wait said: “I have been really impressed by the standard of the Garages and Technicians that I’ve come across in the awards.

“With Motul now in a position to properly target the independent garage market and its supply chain in the UK, it is really encouraging to meet people and companies who understand that quality is such a critical factor in success for the sector.

“Our experience of being involved in Top Technician and Top Garage will undoubtedly help us further refine Motul’s UK workshop offer and we’d like to congratulate not only our winners, but everyone who took part.”
