Our Virtual Academy shares tips for online learning

Digital training provider, Our Virtual Academy has this week shared essential tips and advice for technicians wishing to brush up on their knowledge during the UK’s coronavirus lockdown.

Subscribers to the platform get unlimited access to all Our Virtual Academy’s online training, 24-hours-a-day, allowing technicians to learn when and how it suits them.

Advising GW on how technicians new to online training can get the most out of it, Ben Stockton, founder of Our Virtual Academy, highlights the importance of ‘zoning-in’ to the experience and suggests headphones are the best way to achieve this.

He added: “Don’t feel obliged to watch the content for hours on end as most of us eventually lose concentration.

“Something around 30 minutes to an hour at a time is sufficient.”

One of the key advantages to digital learning on Our Virtual Academy is the ability to rewind videos.

Ben said: “What’s important is to take the information in and understand it – plus have an awareness of the details covered by the topics so when they inevitably start work on cars again they’re able to refer back to the content – ‘relearning on demand’.

“All our courses work on the principle that the subject of fundamental electrics is clearly understood.

“Therefore we always advise clients to start off in that area first as understanding that subject/section underpins pretty much all other learning on the site.”

Notes are saved automatically.

Users are encouraged to use a ‘notes’ facility embedded into the left hand side of the video player.

Any notes are saved automatically and are easily accessible.

Recently added functionality on Our Virtual Academy is the ability for garage owners and workshop managers to set goals for their teams.

Ben explained: “We have a function embedded into the site which accommodates targets.

“This function is called ‘Assigned Training’ and is found in the ‘Management Tools’ section which all ‘Manager’ logins have access to.”
