Monroe safety ambassador, Thierry Neuville and co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul withstood a furious last-stage charge by defending FIA World Rally Championship titleholder Sébastien Ogier to claim victory in Rally Italia Sardegna.
The win, the ninth of Neuville’s WRC career, extends his lead to 27 points in the drivers’ championship with six events remaining.
Neuville and Ogier dominated the action on the Mediterranean island, with just eight seconds separating the two – but with a nearly two-minute margin over third place – heading into Sunday’s 6.96km Power Stage.
Neuville and Gilsoul held on for a seven-second victory, the third-closest winning margin in WRC history.
“We congratulate Thierry for another breathtaking win and an important step toward what we hope will be the 2018 WRC championship,” said Olivier Schyns, marketing and communication director for Tenneco Aftermarket EMEA, manufacturer of Monroe shock absorbers.
“He drove the Hyundai i20 to its absolute limits without making a mistake.” Tenneco and the Monroe brand are proud to support his quest for a season title.
WRC continues July 26-29, 2018, with the Neste Rally Finland.
