TRICO celebrates championship success

The TRICO-sponsored Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 of James Dorlin sealed victory in the final race of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain on the Silverstone GP Circuit, to become the maiden Cayman Islands Porsche Sprint Challenge GB Champion.

It was a busy weekend for the much in-demand Yorkshireman, as Silverstone also staged the final round of the 2020 British GT Championship and here James was looking to challenge the regular GT4 contenders in the series in a new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 race car, which TRICO was also supporting.

The first order of business, however, was to try and take the Porsche Sprint Challenge series.

In the first of the double header finale races for the Porsche Sprint cup on Sunday, James, in his MSL entered and IN2 Racing-run Cayman, fared well in the kind of wet conditions in which TRICO products excel, to take a fine podium finish.

This meant that a reasonable result of any kind in race 2 would see him home to the title.

James, however, was determined to take the championship crown in style and, after an epic battle with very experienced Porsche racer, Dino Zamparelli, throughout the race, piloted the TRICO-branded Porsche to the narrowest of victories.

In the Intelligent Money British GT Championship finale, James was paired with fellow Porsche Sprint Cup competitor, Alex Toth-Jones in the MSL Powered by Newbridge Aston Martin Vantage GT4.

The TRICO-branded machine qualified well and led the category for the opening two hours, even running as high as second overall, during one of the safety car periods.

Staying out when others pitted could have been the winning strategy as the car was certainly on class leading pace, but in the end, two pitstops in the last hour cost the team a likely podium finish.

They eventually ran home sixth in the extremely close fought category – a still reasonable finish to what was an excellent weekend overall.

TRICO’s senior marketing manager, Sam Robinson, said: “It is great for TRICO to be able to celebrate championship success once again this season.

“Our heartiest congratulations to James and to everyone at MSL & IN2 Racing.

“The Porsche Sprint Challenge has much going for it – the racing is close, the cars are really smart and professionally run, the coverage is good and, of course, Porsche themselves are behind it.

“TRICO is proud to have been represented in it by both Sarah Moore and, newly-crowned champion, James Dorlin.”
