Garages must ensure they continue to manage COVID-19 risk amid increasing workloads

The automotive aftermarket is being urged to keep up momentum in helping to set an example to other industries when practising and implementing social distancing and health and safety measures.

Over the past few months, the aftermarket has been quick to react to ever-changing legislation and government advice, as businesses worked tirelessly to ensure it could keep key workers on the road safely and securely.

Richard Welland, managing director of WAI UK, is now calling on the supply chain to keep up the good work and remain vigilant as lockdown begins to ease, stressing that the aftermarket needs to ensure it can keep up with increasing demand and maintain high levels of reassurance when servicing and repairing vehicles.

Welland, who made use of WAI’s global supply chain to source much-needed products right from the start of the pandemic, said: “There’s a lot of ambiguity surrounding best practice at the moment, and although the general public is being advised to wear masks wherever possible, it’s important that staff protect themselves too.

“When a customer brings their vehicle into a garage, we recommend that the technician sanitises the vehicle before they carry out any work to safeguard both themselves and the motorist.”

As a result of these demands, WAI has brought a high-level, non-corrosive vehicle disinfectant cleaner, STERI-7, to market, which regenerates and protects for up to seven days.

STERI-7 is a recognised leading pharmaceutical company and the unique formula kills 99.9 per cent of pathogens with its unique regenerative formula.

Welland continued: “High-quality sanitising products provide all people with peace of mind, and as STERI-7 continues to kill harmful bacteria and germs for up to seven days, technicians can benefit from longer-lasting performance, meaning they can rest assured that they are only required sterilise the car once.

“Looking ahead, there is a risk that attitudes may begin to relax and it’s imperative that the supply chain has access to in-demand products such as sanitising spays that motorists can use themselves to keep their vehicles clean and safe.”

Coming soon, thanks to the success of the WAI vehicle sanitiser kit, used by thousands of garages across the UK, WAI is introducing the Steri-7 250ml bottle, a perfect fit to be kept in the vehicle and provides garages, motor factors and retail shops with an opportunity to offer an after-care solution to the general public.

WAI STERI-7 vehicle sanitiser is available to garages and can be ordered by emailing [email protected] or calling 01243 833 420.
