ZF LIFETEC, a supplier of passive safety systems, showcased its latest steering wheel, airbag, and seat belt technologies on its first Technology Day under the new brand.
The ZF LIFETEC brand, introduced in March 2024 for the ZF Passive Safety Systems division, is currently being set up as a standalone company independent from ZF Group. With a global market share of more than 20 percent, ZF LIFETEC is found in the vehicles of almost all leading vehicle manufacturers.
Rudolf Stark, head of ZF LIFETEC said:
“The need for safer mobility is universal. Therefore, the share of safety features in new passenger cars is expected to increase significantly – in both electric and combustion vehicles. Demand is driven by increasing global safety regulations and automotive megatrends,”.
Automated driving, drivetrain electrification and smart interiors are considered the main drivers of change in the automotive industry. These features present challenges for future occupant protection systems and business opportunities for ZF LIFETEC, and the market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 4% until 2030.
Among the solutions presented at the ZF LIFETEC Technology Day 2024 were a steering wheel with a pioneering seamless design, a driver airbag that deploys from the top of the steering wheel, a driver airbag solution (dual contour bag) designed to protect the driver in normal driving or in a comfort seating position, and an internal side airbag that can be deployed shortly before a side impact.
