At Auto Shanghai, ZF is presenting its latest technologies for the passenger car and commercial vehicle industries, including the connected “Chassis 2.0” and a new electric drive Range Extender. The company, a major automotive supplier, is increasing its focus and market share within China.
ZF CEO Dr. Holger Klein stated the company’s continuous investment in innovative technologies for the Chinese market, including by-wire technologies in Chassis 2.0 and the new range extender system. He emphasised ZF’s adaptation of production and development processes to meet the specific demands of Chinese customers.
The Chassis 2.0 concept addresses the trends of electrification, software-defined vehicles, and autonomous driving. Its cubiX software networks all chassis actuators, such as steering, brakes, and dampers, for optimal performance. By-wire technologies are central to Chassis 2.0, and ZF has secured significant market share in this area, equipping vehicles like the NIO ET9 with its steer-by-wire system. ZF has also announced a major order for its brake-by-wire technology. Chassis 2.0 includes active chassis technology to mitigate pitching and rolling, a feature of increasing importance for automated and autonomous driving. The sMOTION active suspension system, utilising ZF’s CDC adaptive damping, is already used in Porsche models and is attracting interest from Chinese customers.
ZF is also presenting its new electric range extender system, which integrates generator and driving modes into a single electric drive system, set for production next year. This system is designed for extended-range all-wheel drive without a second drive system, offering cost and packaging benefits.
For commercial vehicles, ZF is showcasing its integrated electric axle system, AxTrax 2, and the TraXon 2 Hybrid transmission, aimed at decarbonising the sector. ZF is also presenting new driver assistance, braking, and electric power steering systems for commercial vehicles.
ZF President for China, Renee Wang, highlighted the company’s 40-year presence in China, with over 50 manufacturing locations and five R&D centres, and billions of euros invested in the region.
