Plans for a new MOT test facility in Worcester have been approved despite a local councillor labelling the proposals “daft”.
Listers wants to convert an existing workshop in the city into an MOT centre, doubling the showroom’s workforce but leading to the loss of parking spaces.
Councillor Alan Amos said he was “staggered” that nobody on the committee could foresee any problems with the plan, saying: ”What bothers me about this [plan] is that the number of staff has doubled from 24 to 48 but the number of car parking spaces has reduced by seven.
“Daft is the politest word I can come up with.
“Where are they going to park? My argument has always been that they should be parking on-site. I’m disappointed that we have heard nothing today about increasing the capacity for these 24 extra staff.”
Cllr Amos pointed to existing parking problems and congestion in the roads off Bromyard Road, saying locals have been “plagued for years” by overspill parking.
Listers said it needed to include the MOT testing centre in its planning application to satisfy the DVSA and resubmitted the paperwork accordingly.
